Microsoft have changed which licenses include Teams!

Microsoft were challenged by the EU on anti-competitive behaviour last year for packaging Teams into all their licenses. As a result they removed Teams from EU licensing at the time and have now rolled the changes out worldwide. You can take a look at what Microsoft have to say about the changes here.

The upshot is that if you currently have a license like 365 E3 (£33.10/user/month), Business Basic (£4.90/user/month), or Business Standard (£10.30/user/month) that includes Teams you’ll continue to have access to Teams. Any new licenses bought after the 1st of April 2024 will not include Teams. You’ll need to buy a separate Teams Essentials (£3.30/user/month) or Teams Enterprise (£4.30/user/month) license in order to access Teams.

There is a slight caveat on this. If you’re currently buying your licenses through a reseller as we do, you buy the license based on the back-end code and then increase or reduce the number of licenses you have. This means that you can increase your number of old-style Teams inclusive licenses at the moment. It is possible that this will change though. Microsoft may well announce at some point in the future that after your next annual renewal Teams will be removed from your existing licenses.
