BUSINESS CONTINUITY

A Business Continuity plan is more than just a backup. It is an outline of how you will get your business critical systems up and running in the case of an emergency.

    BACKUP SYSTEMS AND SOFTWARE

You can back up more than data, if you require 100% uptime then you need to have something in place to replace business critical systems and software. This might be a service like Mimecast Archiving that can keep you emailing when Microsoft’s servers are down, or a whole ‘hot’ site with spare servers, desks, network and PCs kept at the ready.

    BUSINESS CRITICAL

A key part of developing a Business Continuity plan is working out what is a business critical system. Sage may be vital for billing, but if it can be down for half a day without your customers experiencing an interruption, it is not business critical. However, if you’re an Accountant and you use Sage to complete any activity for your clients, then it is.

    REASONABLE ACCESS

The next step is working out how you will maintain access to business critical systems in the case of an emergency. Is it reasonable to have to log into Outlook online in the case of an emergency? Or do you need an Outlook plugin that only works locally to access client data?

    RISK VS COST

Once you’ve decided what you need access to and how you are prepared to access it you need to build a plan at a reasonable cost. Running a full hot swappable site means paying for hardware costs and maintenance on a full set of servers – is that worth it to you? Our Techs can help you find a balanced solution that will cover your vital bases and fit your budgets.

    DISASTER RECOVERY

Even if you have a Business Continuity plan to keep business critical systems running in the case of an emergency, you’ll still need Disaster Recovery. DR is how you’ll get everything else back – historical data, non-critical apps and the nice-to-haves.
